How do I choose a gutter cleaner in Roseville?

Choose a gutter cleaner who shows proof of insurance, holds a CSLB license if the job includes repairs over $1,000, gives a clear price before starting, tests every downspout, and sends before-and-after photos. Ask how they handle tile roofs, since walking on concrete tile can crack it. California requires a CSLB license for jobs over $1,000 in labor and materials combined (CSLB).

Be wary of anyone who quotes a very low price at the door and then finds "urgent" repairs once they're on the roof.

What happens during a visit, step by step?

Every rain gutter cleaning in Roseville, CA follows the same nine steps, so you know what you're paying for. We clear the gutters by hand, flush and test each downspout, check the parts that fail on older homes, clean up, and send you photos of the before and after.

Small fixes, like resealing a dripping seam or reattaching a loose downspout, are quoted on the spot before we do them. No surprise charges on the invoice.

Every step in detail, with what is included and what costs extra: how we work.

  1. Arrive in the window we gave you and text you when we pull up.
  2. Photograph the gutters before we touch them, so you can see what was up there.
  3. Clear every gutter. Wet debris comes out by hand, because blowing wet leaves sprays mud across stucco. Dry leaves on a walkable roof can be blown out, then the gutter is scraped clean.
  4. Work from the top down. Second-story gutters first, so nothing we move lands in a gutter we already cleaned.
  5. Clear roof valleys where leaves pile up and feed the gutter below.
  6. Flush and test every downspout with a hose. If water doesn't run free out the bottom, we clear the elbow or the line.
  7. Check what's attached to the gutter: hangers, seams, end caps, the fascia board behind it, and any cracked or slipped roof tiles we can see from the ladder.
  8. Bag and haul the debris and rinse or blow off walkways, patios and driveways.
  9. Text you the after photos with a short note on anything we found, such as a sagging run or a cracked tile.

Hand, blower or water: how are gutters cleaned?

We match the method to the debris. Wet leaves and sludge come out by hand with a scoop, because blowing wet debris sprays mud across stucco and windows. Dry, loose leaves on a walkable roof can be blown out. Water comes last, to flush grit toward the outlet and test each downspout.

Debris conditionMethodWhy
Dry, loose leaves (early fall)Blower on walkable roofs, then hand scrapeFast, and nothing sticks to siding
Wet leaves and sludge (after rain)Hand scoop into a bucket or bagBlowing wet debris throws mud on walls and windows
Packed dirt, seedlings and rootsHand scoop and scraperHas to be pried loose; a blower moves nothing
Fine tile grit and dustHose flush toward the outletToo fine to scoop, and it settles back like sand
Debris under gutter guardsGuards lifted, cleaned under, resetThe guard hides the clog

The flush test

A gutter can look clean and still overflow. After clearing, we run a hose at the high end of each run and watch two things: the water should move toward the outlet without pooling, and it should pour out the bottom of the downspout at the same rate it went in. If it backs up, the elbow or the line below is blocked, and we clear it. Standing water in a clean gutter usually means it has lost its slope, which is a repair job we photograph and explain.

Never been cleaned? What to expect on a 2000s home

Many Roseville homes are now 20 to 35 years old. If yours was built in the 2000s and nobody has been up the ladder since, the first cleaning is a bigger job than a routine visit.

  • Packed soil, not loose leaves. Years of rotted debris turn into dark dirt, often with grass or tree seedlings rooted in it.
  • Plugged elbows. The bend at the bottom of each downspout is often solid.
  • Bent hangers. Wet soil is heavy. After enough winters it bends the hangers and the gutter sags.
  • More time on site, sometimes double a routine visit, which we tell you on the phone before we come.

Anything that needs more than cleaning gets photographed, and you decide what to do. After the first visit, we suggest a schedule based on what came out, using our guide to when to clean your gutters.

What is in the photo report you get after every visit?

After the cleaning, you get before-and-after photos of each side of the house by text or email, with short notes on anything we found. You can see the work without coming outside, and you have a dated record of maintenance for an insurance claim or a home sale.

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Roseville, CA?

In Roseville, a typical cleaning costs $120 to $225, with an average of about $190 for 200 linear feet of gutter, according to This Old House. GreenPal puts the average Roseville job at $133 to $248. Two-story homes, tile roofs and gutter guards cost more because they take longer and need more ladder work.

Most Roseville homes have 150 to 250 feet of gutter. Here is what we charge:

HomeTypical gutter lengthOur price
Single-story, walkable roof150 to 200 ft$150 to $225
Single-story, concrete tile roof150 to 200 ft$175 to $250
Two-story180 to 250 ft$225 to $350
Two-story with steep pitch, or three stories200 ft and upQuoted by phone
Add: gutter guards lifted, cleaned and resetPer footQuoted with your cleaning
Add: underground downspout line clearedPer lineQuoted with your cleaning
Add: solar panel cleaning in the same visitPer panelQuoted with your cleaning

What makes a job cost more: height, roof type (tile and steep roofs are cleaned from the ladder, which takes longer), how packed the gutters are, the number of downspouts, guards that have to come off, and access such as side yards, pools and slopes.

What doesn't change the price: the time of year, and whether you're home. You get the price before we start. That is how we price gutters in Roseville, CA: a clear number up front, not a low one that grows once someone is on the roof.

Two-story homes, tile roofs and rooftop solar

Most Roseville homes were built in the last 35 years. The median home here was built in 1998, and almost half were built between 1990 and 2009 (U.S. Census ACS). That means a lot of two-story houses, a lot of concrete tile and a lot of rooftop solar. Each one changes how gutters should be cleaned.

Two-story homes in west and north Roseville

Two-story homes in Westpark, Fiddyment Farm, Crocker Ranch and Highland Reserve need a 28 to 32 foot extension ladder with a standoff, so the ladder rests on the roof and not on the gutter. We clean the upper gutters first, then the lower ones. Expect a higher price and a longer visit than a single-story home.

Concrete tile roofs: why we don't walk on them

Concrete S-tile and flat tile can crack under a boot, and a cracked tile can let water under the roof. So on tile roofs we clean from the ladder, moving it along the house, instead of walking the roof. It takes longer, which is why tile costs a little more. If we see a cracked or slipped tile, we photograph it and tell you.

Homes with rooftop solar

Leaves, nests and debris get trapped under solar panels and wash into the gutter below. Pigeons nesting under panels are a common complaint around Roseville. We work around panels without stepping on them, and we can clean the panels in the same visit.

Do you still need gutter cleaning if you have gutter guards?

Yes, but less often. Gutter guards keep out most leaves, but redwood needles, oak tassels, pine needles and tile grit still sit on top of screens or slip through them. Plan on a yearly check, and more often under redwoods and pines. Guards have to be lifted, cleaned under and reset, so it takes longer than an open gutter.

In the Sacramento area, installed gutter guards run about $7 to $11 per linear foot (Homeyou, August 2026). On a 200-foot home that's roughly $1,400 to $2,200. We'll tell you honestly whether your trees justify it. Some homes are better off with two cleanings a year. Compare guard types for your trees on our gutter guards in Roseville page.

Why do Roseville gutters clog so fast?

Roseville gutters clog quickly because the city is planted with trees that drop a lot of debris at the wrong time. London planetree, coast redwood and ornamental pear are the three most common city street trees, and native valley, blue and live oaks line the creeks. Their leaves fall from November to January, right as the rain season peaks.

The street tree inventory in the city's Urban Forest Master Plan lines up with what we pull out of gutters most:

TreeShare of city street treesWhat it does to a gutter
London planetree11.5%Big leaves mat flat over the downspout opening. Seed balls and bark flakes follow
Coast redwood10.8%Fine needles fall all year, pack tight, and slip through cheap gutter screens
Ornamental pear7.4%Two rounds: blossoms in spring, leaves in fall
Crape myrtle6.9%Small leaves and seed pods that collect in corners
Blue oak and valley oak4.7% eachLeaves, acorns and spring tassels. Heavy loads on lots near Dry Creek, Linda Creek and Miners Ravine
Chinese pistache4.2%Bright fall leaves and berries that stain

More detail by tree and season: what clogs Roseville gutters.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Roseville?

Most Roseville homes need gutter cleaning twice a year: once in late October or November before the heavy rain, and again in late winter after the last leaves drop. Homes under oaks, redwoods or pines often need a third visit in spring. Homes with few trees can go a full year, and some can go two.

Find the row that matches your yard:

Your yardHow oftenWhen
Few or young trees (common in newer west Roseville tracts)Once a year, sometimes every two yearsLate October to November
A few street trees, or a neighbor's tree hanging overTwice a yearNovember, then February or March
Large oaks, redwoods or pines, or a yard that backs onto open spaceTwo to three times a yearNovember, January or February, and April or May
Gutter guards installedA yearly check, more often under pines and redwoodsFall

We'd rather tell you a home only needs one visit than sell you two you don't need. If your gutters come down clean in spring, we'll say so and suggest a longer gap.

Rain timing and the 2026-27 El Niño

Roseville gets about 20 to 23 inches of rain a year, almost all of it between October and April, and February is the wettest month (WeatherSpark). On October 8, 2026, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center said a strong El Niño is likely through early 2027 (NOAA CPC). Get gutters clear before the storms start. If water is already pouring over, see emergency gutter cleaning.

For a month-by-month plan, see when to clean gutters in Roseville.

What happens if you don't clean your gutters in Roseville?

When gutters stay clogged, rainwater spills over the edge and lands next to the foundation instead of going out the downspout. In Roseville that matters more than in many places, because the clay soil here swells when wet and shrinks when dry. Overflow also rots fascia boards, stains stucco and gives mosquitoes standing water.

Is gutter cleaning worth the money?

For most homes, yes. A cleaning costs about $190 in Roseville. The average homeowners insurance claim for water damage and freezing was $15,400 from 2019 to 2023 (Triple-I), and many policies won't pay for damage caused by skipped maintenance. Keep the dated photos we send you as a record.

Not sure yours are clogged? Check the signs your gutters are clogged.

What we see on Roseville homes that went too long between cleanings:

  • Water at the foundation. This Old House notes that Roseville's expansive soil absorbs moisture in the rainy season and releases it in summer, which puts pressure on foundations. Foundation repair here runs about $1,800 for minor work, $2,800 on average, and $6,800 or more for complex jobs.
  • Rotted fascia and soffit. Water runs behind the gutter and soaks the board it's screwed to.
  • Sagging gutters. Wet debris is heavy. After a few winters it bends the hangers, the gutter loses its slope, and it overflows even after it's cleaned.

Where do I put gutter leaves in Roseville?

Put gutter leaves in your green waste cart, or set them out for the City of Roseville's free curbside leaf pickup, which runs from mid-November to mid-January. The 2025-26 season ran November 17 to January 16. Depending on your street's tree cover, the city collects leaves in bags or in piles (City of Roseville).

When we clean your gutters, we bag the debris and haul it away, or leave the bags at the curb for leaf pickup if you'd prefer. We never dump it over a back fence. If your home backs onto a city open-space preserve, yard waste can't go past your property line.

What Roseville homeowners ask us

Quick answers to what Roseville homeowners ask us most. Don't see yours? Call and ask a real person.

Call us (916) 555-0123

No. Leave the side gate unlocked and keep dogs inside, and we can do the whole job while you are at work or out of town. We text you when we pull up and again when we leave, with before-and-after photos of every side of the house. If something needs your decision, like a loose downspout, we call before doing it.

Most single-story Roseville homes take under an hour. A two-story home, a concrete tile roof, gutter guards that have to come off, or gutters that have not been cleaned in years can take two to three hours. We give you the arrival window and a rough time on site when you book, so you know how long the ladder will be up.

Yes. Every above-ground downspout is flushed with a hose and tested, and blocked elbows are cleared on the spot at no extra charge. Underground drain lines packed with sludge or roots take more time and different tools, so we clear them as a separate add-on and quote the price before we start. See downspout and drain line cleaning.

Yes. Many of our calls come from adult children booking for a parent in Sun City and from landlords with rentals across Roseville. You book and pay by phone, and we send the photos and invoice to you. Nobody at the house needs to be home, climb a ladder or sign anything, and we can call the resident before we arrive.

The usual causes are bent hangers that let the gutter lose its slope, a blocked downspout or underground line, or a gutter that is too small for the roof above it. Those are repair problems, not cleaning problems, so another cleaning will not fix them. We photograph the cause and quote the fix. See gutter repair.

In light rain, usually yes. Wet debris comes out by hand anyway, so a drizzle does not change the job. We stop in heavy rain, strong wind or lightning, because ladders are not safe then, and we move you to the next open day. If water is already pouring over your gutters, ask about an emergency visit.

No. Homeowners insurance treats gutter cleaning as normal maintenance, so you pay for it. Water damage caused by gutters that were neglected for years may also be denied, because most policies exclude damage from poor upkeep. The dated before-and-after photos we send after every cleaning give you a record that the home was maintained.

In most single-family HOAs in Roseville, the homeowner is responsible for their own gutters, but check your CC&Rs to be sure. Townhome and condo associations often clean gutters for every unit on one schedule. If your HOA or property manager needs a certificate of insurance before we work, ask when you book and we will send one.

Tipping is not expected, and the price we quote is the full price. If the crew handled a hard job well, like a packed two-story gutter on a wet day, a tip is always appreciated. A review that names your neighborhood and home type helps even more, because it tells other Roseville homeowners what to expect.

October and November are the busiest months, especially the week after the first big storm, when everyone sees their gutters overflow at once. Booking in September or early October gets you the widest choice of days. With a strong El Niño forecast for this winter, book before the storms start, not after.
